Fuck the Scene

I'm flat out tired of this bullshit. There is nothing but rot left in the DS scene. From SC splitting the scene to card makers not releasing drivers and everything inbetween, it is just fucking ROTTEN. I quit. Good fucking riddance. I hope you are happy. If you want to complain about this, go see the people in #dsdev and #mellowdsdev on efnet.

I'm sorry to see you go. But perhaps you'll pick up the DS later on.

Come on! You have the best homebrew out there! Don't give up because some jelous, jerk, fucking assouls. If some of them are not releasing the drivers, or other ones are complaining, they are the ones who should adapt, not you! If you are not earning any money, you don't need this kind of stress. Develop only for one system, the system that you think is better supported and that's it. It's your hobby. Think that no one is giving you any money or paying your bills for you to develop for them.

If you don't want to develop anymore this amazing app, it's your call of course.

Thank you for the gretest homebrew we all ever seen for this wonderful machine. Hope to see more of your great job, even if in others apps.

What does "SC splitting the scene" mean? Is this reffering to the multiple undocumented versions of Supercard Lite?

Anonymous said...

SC = StoneCypher

An IRC operator of #dsdev, who is disliked by half the scene (yet no one removes his op).

You don't know me or anything, I'm just a big fan of DSO, who wants to say a few words.

I only want to let you know that I, and probably many others, completely understand and respect your decision and want to thank you for all your hard work, whether you continue or not.

Anonymous said...

Noo! Please, no, DSO is practically the only app I ever use! I've been anticipating what other excellent ideas would come from you for months. I really thought one day you'd end up giving us a voice controlled web browser with fingerprint recognition. I mean seriously what are we gonna do now? You just know no one else will get anywhere meaningful without you, even with the source. I know, we should just learn to code for ourselves, but the reality is you're one of the few bright spots keeping things fun, useful and interesting. Well, my familly and I hope you change your mind anyway, but thanks for what is at least the best work in progress we ever saw.

I didn't split the scene, DragonMinded. DarkFader did by mass inviting to #mellow after BRP permbanned him.

No amount of telling people I caused the split will ever make it true.

I guess I can't really blame you. Well, your app was still kick-ass and it will be remembered by all.

Cory said...

Wow.. I guess I understand why I stay pretty much the hell away from IRC and keep to myself when working on stuff...

John said...

Cory: we wish you wouldn't. Contrary to what you might hear on this blog, the real channel is actually quite a nice, pleasant place, except when we're being spammed. Please feel free to join us; the community is most of the way back together, and we'd love to get people better-involved.

Someone should continue DSO! The source was just released 14 days ago too!

DM im sorry to hear that your going out, but if u change your mind we r geathering a team of dev's for a product range for the ds.

(I should say we are taking control of a company who has a good product line, but lack the skills to communicate with the outside dev# teams).

if your at all interested drop me
a line, But its your decision, cos without people like u, all u have is a RM loader. and that would be a big shame.

Wow, everyone is talking about how cool DSOrganize is. I'm going to download and drop it on my M3 lite now. Thanks!

I'm getting a DS-Xtreme soon (pre-ordered for the 9th of October), and your application is definitely going on there.

I also want to develop for the DS, so you'll have another developer in the DS homebrew community :)

The DS-Xtreme is meant to be an awesome card, by the way. All you have is a single DS game card, no cart whatsoever, with a mini USB port on it (cable comes with card).

Oh, and there are no drivers, either -- it is picked up as a mass storage device in Windows XP / 2000 / whatever.

I guess I will pour one out for my dead homey,... DSO.

good luck in the future Dragondminded

So wait a second here... all this is over IRC DRAMA?! That can't be!

I still wish Dragonminded the best in whatever he does next and don't see any point in begging him to continue a project he doesn't want to do... however I still get the feeling the whole story isn't here. Certainly this isn't just over people saying mean things in an IRC channel, right?

Too bad. I really was looking forward to future updates to DS Organize. But we'll all miss your releases, and wish you luck in the future.

The DS scene, as he said is ROTTEN, in caps.
The card manufacturers are not releasing the files we need to develop, and the scene shouldn't be on different irc channels, i know what happens in these cases from the spanish gp2x scene.
I've not even started a project for the NDS beacuse all these problems, so... fuck the scene, and fuck all those people destroying it.
Dragonminded, I'm with you, i can understand you before enternig the NDS scene.

muggsy said...

good luck with your future endeavours.. you made a great contribution to the scene and it will be missed.

Anonymous said...

Very sad, but good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Anonymous said...

I really dont know. I understand the point where card manufacturers do not release their drivers would cause issues to developement of a homebrew. But I dont see an issue with multiple channels for a scene on IRC. In fact IRC to me is one of the dumbest thing. Its a place where most rumors started. A place where most problem arise. IMO you shouldnt have let such thing affect you. IRC = virtual world and you yourself = real world. Do what you like, why bother others? Thats just my comment for you. Whatever your decision is I can only wish you all the best with your decision. Althou I dont really use the DSO but I did tested it before and indeed its a brillant piece of work. Hope that you dont get affected by other ass around you. Just stick to your hobby and do what you are happy with. Even you may not be back after all these words but still wish that we could see something new from you in the near future. Good luck in everything.

Sadly for every person whom blames SC for the awful atmosphere of the "scene" there are many more who silently leave, unable or willing to lower themselves to his level of personal insult. Its greatly warming to finally see other people realising he has ruined so much.

You absolute FUCKTARD.

Dragonminded, I've followed DS Organize since it's beginnings...You can't just give up on us so easily! First Liranuna leaves, and now you?!

The DS scene is dead...

PanDemic said...

Hate to see you leave,
but I love what you left behind.

Anonymous said...

@StoneCypher: How many people in your peaceful official channel (#dsdev on blitzed) like you? I mean seriously, EVEN THERE, people just hate you.
You're comments are always annoying-trying-to-be-funny. When you join the channel we'll start seeing ChanServ doing things (+b). THAT is what kills the scene.

No one likes you. Fatty. Face it.

FUCK the DS...PSP OWNS!

I don't know what the fuck is going on but thanks for making DS Organize. It's the most useful homebrew app around.

Sorry but i agreed with the choice of dragonminded to go out of this shit, not only ds scene but all nintendo scene (and many another scenes).

There are two kind of scenes:

The opensource, grown fast, everyone is happy with it and everyone learn with it.

The closesource scene, they are in two subgroups:egomaniacs and greedy.

Egomaniacs :This projects are created by a bunch of egomaniacs guys. They don't sh### care about to share, but it's all about how much people will venerate you. Usually they launch a limited number of release then finally people discover that the project is a real bluff or even this project is a fake one. This projects don't work fine because usually they are one-man projects or because the lack of real betatesters or accept the comments of the people.

Greedy :The vast majories of the projects for nintendo scenes are in this categories. They don't care about the projects himself but how much money they can obtain from nintendo. How?. They create some projects that on-purpose hurts the sales of nintendo company. The nintendo send a "cease and desist letter", everyone known that it's a pitty joke, if not piracy the scene is true legal and if not they they can hidden their identity. So later nintendo pact a NDA with the condition of give money or some position in nintendo for to stop this projects, burning the datas and source code. For example, some promising projects are left without a true explanation and without freeing the source code (in fact almost any nintendo 64 projects are in this category). If you fell piss of of something, then usually you free the code hopping to someone take the projects.

IMHO Scenes must be opensource. Scenes are not created for help to private projects.

It's a sad day indeed... Two homebrewn apps are truly amazing in the DS scene: Moonshell, and yours truly, DSOrganize. It saddens me to see a great mind leave because of politics (at least that what it seems).

I wish you the best of luck. I am absolutly sure you will succeed in any projects you take on in the future.

*raises hand*

I'm one of those who silently left. Listen up DS developers who are not idiots (e.g. StoneCypher) -- if you are interested in collaborating on some facet of a project, start your own dsdev community.

Anonymous said...

By the way, has anyone seen how fat and gay StoneCypher looks?

Thomas said...

Wow, that sure is a bummer.

DSOrganize is one of the very best apps out there for DS and I was looking forward to watch it grow.

I hope you'll reconsider, though if you don't I understand. Just remember that there are others out there who care about the stuff you do - the silent majority.

onheflared said...

DSOrganize is simply *the* one, final homebrew app to have on any DS. It was, is, and will always continue to be due to your great efforts on the application.

Thanks for the great work and kudos and good luck on any and all future endeavors!

> First Liranuna leaves, and now you?!

LiraNuna didn't leave. He's in channel right now. Neither did DragonMinded, the last two times he said he was leaving forever.

They're just trying to stir up drama, just like all these anonymous people (who are probably all the same person, judging by their writing style.)

If you fall for it, that's on you.

Kraken said...

I don't nessesarily understand whats going on here, but im going to say a few things anyways. First off, you and DSOrganize rock. You are one of the most talented developers in all of homebrew, and a lot of people, including me of course, really appreciate your efforts.

You should not let a few losers/lamers on IRC deter you from your projects, especially if they are something that you really want to do. We understand if its interfering with real life/work/school, but if its just due to the typed words of lamers, show that you are above all this.

My advice: Take a few days off, play a good game or two, then with a clear head, evaluate whether or not you want to return. Regardless of your choice, your fans wish you the best.

Yasin said...

> They're just trying to stir up drama, just like all these anonymous people (who are probably all the same person, judging by their writing style.)

Rather than sit there, take a breather, realise that you were and have been an arsehole to the majority of people out there in the ds-dev scene. Then bite the bullet and APOLOGISE, stop doing it, perhaps look introspectively and ask yourself why you're such a jaded wanker...

..rather than do that you decide to continue to be that same arsehole and kid yourself into thinking anyone without a Blogger account obviously doesn't exist in real life.

You ought to know that there were more than 3 people using DSO. I'd certainly not be surprised if I saw as many anonymous comments out there. It _is_ a good application; why not acknowledge it as that?

So get a grip - what's obvious here is that you've been rather difficult towards DragonMin and others. Whilst many can disocciate themselves from the crass that is IRC - some actually take things to heart. You wouldn't be as much of an ass in real life as you are online; why not realise that there are people at the other end of the window?

I acknowledge all that you've done for ds-dev. I'm a fan of your work too SC; you are obviously very clever and talented. But dagnammit - just stop being an elitist ass sometimes.

Just to add another mournful voice : DS Organise is the best homebrew app that I have. Thanks for all your hard work.

I understand your reluctance to let others continue your app, but I hope you will overcome it, or come back, it would be a tragedy if DS Organise is never developed further.
